Located in the Texas Panhandle, on the major east-west highway I-40, Amarillo is often called the “Yellow Rose of Texas.” This small city is a regional powerhouse, known for cattle ranches, shipping and manufacturing. It’s not a beautiful city, but the natural setting is a big draw. The nearby Palo Duro Canyon is known for its stunning Lighthouse Pinnacle, the second largest such rock formation in the country.

The local gay community is small but welcoming.

Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport  is is about 7 miles east of downtown.

 

Getting around
